Garland Demetrous began his journey in the sewing and fashion industry while attending fashion school at the Art Institute of California–Inland Empire. During his very first quarter, he secured his first professional role in the fashion industry, working in the costume department at Universal Studios Hollywood. While continuing his studies full-time, he joined the costume wardrobe staff for Universal Studios’ annual Halloween Horror Nights, serving as a dresser and wardrobe assistant for the pop culture production Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure (2009).
Shortly thereafter, Garland transferred to the Art Institute of California–Hollywood and relocated to Los Angeles, where his creative ambitions fully took shape.
Over the years, Garland worked with a wide range of creative organizations and productions, including The Los Angeles Ballet (The Nutcracker, 2010), Boomer Mania at the El Portal Theatre, The Untold Tale of Doris Day (Costume Head / Lead Dresser), and Daniela Kurrle Couture (2012) in West Hollywood. During this time, he hand-crafted garments and performed high-quality alterations for notable clients, including Tracee Ellis Ross and Melissa McCarthy, as well as work featured on the television series Pretty Little Liars. His craftsmanship also includes hand-crafted gowns for two Miss Rodeo California pageant winners and his first couture wedding gown in 2018.
After years of designing, tailoring, and mastering his craft, Garland felt called to shift into education. During the pandemic, he obtained his business licenses and began the process of becoming a contracted sewing instructor. In 2021, he began teaching for the City of Fontana, hosting classes twice a month on Saturday mornings. His involvement in community events—including Halloween celebrations, Easter programs, and local art festivals—led to additional opportunities, and in 2022 he secured a teaching contract with Fontana Adult School, where he currently teaches on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Building on his success in adult education, Garland partnered with the City of Fontana and Fontana Unified School District in 2023 to develop and lead an after-school sewing program at Cypress Elementary School. He currently holds a contract to teach five six-week sessions across three elementary schools in Fontana.
Garland has worked under the mentorship of many skilled professionals to become a true master of his craft. Beyond being a master tailor, he is also an expert pattern maker, hand-drafting patterns from precise measurements with the precision of an architect. His work reflects a deep commitment to quality, fit, and craftsmanship.
